Postman? Weatherman?

Donegal's weather predicting postman has a book! Got this courtesy of Sim at Glenmore. Its a great read, basically everything predicts rain.

Glyde - Castlebellingham

Im starting to like the Glyde!

Reelin

After a hefty breakfast I drove up to the Reelin to give it a throw. I was surprised to see it in full flight, the small amount of rain that morning had a bigger effect than I thought. Thats the great thing about the Finn! I enjoyed fishing it down but didnt connect with anything, it really was fast though and very clean.

Annick beat

Lucky enough to get on the Annick beat today. It was my first time to fish the beat and it has some stunning fly water. Im not sure if I fished from the top of the beat but I did walk upriver from the bridge for a good 20 mins. I really enjoyed fishing it back to the road bridge and had the place to myself. Managed to hook 3 fish and land one. All grilse and the two I got a glimpse of were fresh. I spoke too soon about those hooks, although I am still happy with them. Its just the way single barbless goes.

Finn-Letterbrick

Early start on the Finn this morning. Started at Letterbrick with an inch and a half long green butt cascade tube. Had a fish slash at the fly so switched to a mini tube. Near the tail of the pool this fish nailed it. Its all single barbless hooks on the finn but this is my second fish Ive caught on Nash Fang Gaper barbless carp hooks. They really dig in, so far anyway!

DSA water

A perfect run on the fane for the fly rod. Water is in great order and clean, only a few months too early!

Francis fly

A francis I tied up in anticipation for getting out on the river. Im Tied down lately but I finish placement in a week, so more time for switchin!

Up and up.

Update on the fane after more rain. Still clean.

Some day!

Fane up!

No real surprise with all the rain we got, I recorded 25mm for 12 hours yesterday. Not massive but dirty, No.2 at knockbridge.

Ronan's Orvis Access 11ft Switch #5

Ronan shooting his airflo scandi head for his #5 spey rated Orvis Access. Rio running line 024in/0.610mm, really supple setup and very very nice to cast. The rod still has good backbone despite its lighter gram rating and is perfect for the summer grilse. I'd say he might even use it all year round now though.

Mayfly on the Fane

First sighting of a Mayfly on the Fane? Maybe not but one of the first to be photographed hopefully. Spotted it floating around and thought, no way! Made a B line for it and grabbed it luckily. Got lost from the Gyde?

Bat Boy

Caught this fella in my cast last night. Thought there was a massive sedge scurrying across the river, turned out it was himself caught on my line. Bit of bother getting him off till I got reinforced by Petsie with a pair of forceps. They bite for sure. Hid in the grass after releasing it, hopefully it flew off later.
